Design and Build, 6-form entry, secondary school for 900 pupils in the London Borough of Waltham Forest, north east London, replacing the previous, over-subscribed, 4-form entry comprehensive school catering for 600 pupils. Situated over three floors with a combined area of 7,900m2, the new building provides general teaching areas, a dining area with onsite catering, ICT suites and a sports hall with playing fields. Kershaw installed full M&E building services on the project which presented a number of logistic challenges due the site’s location, being tightly bound by a main railway line to the north, Blackhorse Road, A1006 to the east and residential buildings to the south. The main pedestrian entrance to the school is at level 1 and accessed via a bridge from Blackhorse Road. The mechanical works include an intelligent Building Management System, CHP boiler, full ventilation, ground floor plant room and roof top plant. The electrical works included access control, fire alarms, a voice alarm and public address system, and all lighting. The school also benefits from a solar PV roof array of 576m2.
