City of Peterborough Academy

Client: The Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust

Location: Peterborough

Contractor: Carillion

Project Value: £1.2m Mechanical

This brand new academy and accompanying City of Peterborough SEN (Special Educational Needs) School, on the site of the former Hereward Community College, opened in September 2013.

The existing, 1970s, three-storey buildings were refurbished and remodelled to house the co-educational academy catering for up to 850 pupils aged 11-19 years.  The SEN school for 90 children, aged 4-19 years with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, was provided for with 2,400 sq metres of new build.

Kershaw Mechanical Services carried out the mechanical services installation on the project.  Works included a  new, site-wide BMS controls package, air conditioning, efficient heat recovery ventilation and two new, high-efficiency plant rooms. Parts of the existing installations were also retained, making this a complex and challenging assignment.
