Awarded the project by main contractors Kier Construction, Kershaw provided full mechanical and electrical building services
to the new school.
Delivered to a full BIM level 2, the Kershaw team installed above ground drainage and internal rainwater systems, hot and cold domestic water systems as well as natural gas for the boilers and science labs. In addition, Kershaw provided a heating system comprising of a combination of radiators, underfloor heating and radiant panels. A mixture of Mechanical and Natural ventilation systems were installed throughout the buildings and a Trend building management system was fitted. The electrical elements included services such as lighting, power and security systems as well as a Photovoltaic system on the roof of both blocks.
The new school is based on East Dulwich Grove, a site previously occupied by the East Dulwich Community Hospital. It has been built as part of a multi-million-pound regeneration project in order to produce a state-of-the-art learning facility. This phase of the development saw two new buildings, including a 5 storey teaching block to the north of the site and a 3 storey building, which will contain a dining hall, gymnasium, activity studio and changing facilities to the west of the site.
The new building maximises the use of natural light and acoustics, whilst the environmentally responsible design is sympathetic to the surrounding areas.
