Project Value: £3,350,000
Kershaw Mechanical Services has delivered the full building services for this major secondary school expansion, overall project value £16.9 million, which is now the largest school in London at 2,500 pupils.
The existing Beal High School, which was heavily oversubscribed, has benefited from additional, new build accommodation in the form of a three-storey building and sixth form centre. The new facilities have enabled the school to expand from eight forms of entry to 12, and include teaching spaces, a learning resource centre, an assembly hall and a sports halls.
A key feature of the building services works is the Breathing Building natural ventilation system which, together with other sustainable features such as rainwater harvesting, solar PV, under floor heating, and a combined heat and power plant, helps to reduce the building’s carbon footprint and energy usage, and has earned the building a BREEAM excellent rating. Electrical works included power and data; internal, external and feature lighting; and security, fire alarm and PA systems.
