Abacus House, Gutter Lane
Client: Aviva Ltd
Contractor: Kier London
Project Value: M&E £4,210,000
Year Completed: 2019
Kershaw undertook the complete mechanical and electrical installation at Abacus House, Gutter Lane as part of the £14 million refurbishments of the six-storey building located in the heart of London’s financial district.
The 64,986 sq ft building, which is located near to St Paul’s underground station was completely stripped and renovated into high-specification office spaces. Before the mechanical and electrical installation could be completed, the disconnection and removal of redundant equipment including pipework, chillers, cold water storage and air-cooled condensers and boilers were required.
Due to the limited space and central location of the site, Kershaw managed the project to an extremely tight programme of works, liaising with the main contractor and other trades arranging just-in-time deliveries, in order to minimise the amount of disruption on site. This including the pre-fabricated ductwork manufactured at Kershaw’s production facilities in Waterbeach.
Kershaw produced a fully co-ordinated anti-clash 3D model to which the installation was installed too, allowing for a smooth, clash-free process; essential when limited space was available and relying on the just in time ductwork and pipework deliveries. The electrical installation included
power, data, security and access control installations as well as specialist lighting, including in the main reception area.
