Kershaw team beaten by college in footy match to celebrate project end
A number of construction companies that worked closely on an extension for Cambridge Regional College held a friendly football match to celebrate the completion of the project.
The businesses put on a five-a-side match at the new King Hedges Road sports hall in Cambridge yesterday (Monday 23rd February 2009).
They included Kershaw Mechanical Services, T R Freeman, Kier Marriott, Pick Everard, Fusion and Sense.
The Cambridge Regional College team won 2-0 against the Kershaw team in a thrilling final.
Ian Greenstock, the sales director of Kershaw Mechanical Services, was one of the players.
He said: “As shirt sponsors of Cambridge United and sponsors of the Cambs FA Leagues for nearly 20 years, we’ve got a bit of football talent in our business. But we avoided the temptation to make this game too difficult for our opponents.
“Unfortunately, our senior management including the group MD, company MD and our accountant just couldn’t beat the young fit players from the college!”
Kershaw Mechanical Services and its sister company T R Freeman are doing a total of £4.6 million of work at Cambridge Regional College.
It’s all part of the £23 million redevelopment of the Kings Hedges Road site, as the college moves to a single site.
It is adding a new hair & beauty and catering block; a dedicated motor vehicle workshop; new reception area; and extending its existing sports centre.
The work is due to be completed by April.
