£4 million contract for new police station & court concept in Hatfield
Mechanical services contractor Kershaw Mechanical Services has started work on a £4 million contract at a new concept of police station and Magistrates court in Hatfield.
The building will feature 40 police cells, a court, and will be a base to bring together area resources for the Hertfordshire police force.
The Cambridge firm will be undertaking the full design and build of mechanical and electrical services. The contract is due to be completed by April 2008.
Sales director Ian Greenstock said: “We are delighted to be involved with this exciting new concept. It will be a highly functional building and an excellent showcase of some of Kershaw’s best work.”
Kershaw Mechanical Services was awarded the contract by main contractor Willmott Dixon of Hitchin.
The new station is being built around the last listed building on the town’s former de Haviland site.
The front of the new station will be the listed building, with a new two storey building at the rear.
It will also act as the Central Area Headquarters bringing a number of police operational support services under one roof.
The existing listed part of the building is heated by radiators. The new part of the building will have a full Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) heating and air conditioning system installed.
The contract also includes:
- A full building management system
- Electrical systems throughout including full CCTV, securities and fire alarms.
- Toilet extract systems
- Full domestic water services
