Kershaw Mechanical Services Appointed to Prime Cambridge Office Development
Cambridge based company, Kershaw Mechanical Services, is now on site installing full M&E services, valued at £2m, in the new Botanic House office development on Hills Road in Cambridge city centre.
The Grade A, 7 storey office block, located in Cambridge’s expanding business district, is set to be eye-catching in more ways than one. It will be the tallest building in Cambridge on completion, and it’s also shaped like an eye, which presents particular challenges for the mechanical and electrical installation in the ceiling spaces.
Kershaw’s in-house CAD team have produced the design drawing for the building services, encompassing a basement housing plant and storage areas, reception and retail at ground level, and six floors of office space. A central core area will contain lifts, rest room accommodation, fire core and a secondary staircase. The project is aiming to achieve a BREEAM excellent rating.
The main contractor is Morgan Sindall, who Kershaw are working with as supply chain partner, on this and other projects, and the client is Pace Investments.

The company has also manufactured the ductwork for the entire building in-house at its Cambridge workshop. Ian Greenstock explains “This puts us in a unique position as we are the only M&E company in the region with an in-house manufacturing facility, and this gives the client more certainty on project delivery”.
