Kershaw Mechanical Services is adding to their education portfolio once more, after being selected for the Mechanical and Electrical installation at a brand-new Professional and Technical Skills Centre based in the grounds of Stansted airport.
The £11m, two-storey development, is the result of a partnership between Harlow College and Stansted airport and will be built on ground made available from the airport.
Awarded the project by main contractors Willmott Dixon, Kershaw will be responsible for the entire design and build of the Mechanical and Electrical installation. They will be installing a new VRF air conditioning system, new ventilation systems to classrooms, workshop, and kitchen areas as well as local toilet ventilation. Kershaw will also see the installation of a new heating system via gas-fired boilers and hot water generation and domestic service distribution and drainage.
The electrical element of the build will include power, data and lighting installations, fire alarm and intruder alarm, CCTV and Security Systems. As well as lightning protection and external lighting.
Ian Greenstock, Sales and Estimating Director, Kershaw Mechanical Services said “This development looks set to be one of the most sophisticated education facilities we have worked on in recent times. We are delighted to have been chosen for the mechanical and electrical elements of the building, especially given it is the first of its kind in any major UK airport. He continued “The college is set to have more than 500 people train each year in technical skills, traineeships and apprenticeships, which will be a major boost to the local skills base”
The college will offer courses in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). In addition, it will have courses covering topics such as aircraft and airport engineering, business studies, hospitality and customer service amongst others and is set to be completed in August 2018.
