Kershaw Mechanical Services back FootGolf Champion

Kershaw Mechanical Services has a long history of supporting football in the local community, but their most recent sponsorship has seen FootGolf take centre stage.

Jamie Cullum, Contracts Engineer at Kershaw Mechanical recently flew to California to compete in the Jansen Cup.

The tournament, which took place 22-24th May, saw the UK complete against the USA for the much coveted Jansen Cup – FootGolf’s equivalent of the Ryder cup. The biennial event honours Michael Jansen, one of the creators of FootGolf

The competition pits the top U.S. Ranked players of 2016 - Men from General Category, Women/Seniors from their categories - and top ranked players of the United Kingdom (UKFGA Members).

Following the three rounds consisting of foursomes, fourballs and the final day singles, team UK was named the first ever victors of the Jansen Cup, winning the competition 29 ½ – 18 ½.

Jamie Cullum said “Entering the competition, we were confident we could take away the trophy, the UK players have shown their abilities throughout events at home and abroad” he continued “I feel we have some of the best players in the world”

Ian Greenstock, Pre Sales Director at Kershaw Mechanical Services said “As a company, we are always looking to support members of our staff in their sporting activities, so were delighted to sponsor Jamie.” He continued “For Jamie to have participated in and the team he plays for go on to win such a significant tournament is a tremendous achievement.”

As a sport, FootGolf is still in its infancy, but its following is growing. It is a combination of the popular sports of football and golf. The game is played with a regulation size 5 football at a golf course facility on shortened holes with 21-inch diameter cups.

The event attracted widespread media coverage across the globe.
