Kershaw Looking Healthy with Latest Leisure Centre Win
March 15 2015
Kershaw Mechanical Services has won the contract to install full M&E building services into the new £12.5m Flitwick Leisure centre for client Central Bedfordshire Council, working for long standing partner SDC.
Users of the existing Flitwick Leisure Centre in Steppingley Road will be able to watch their new premises take shape as they are being built on what are currently the football pitches. The new centre will incorporate a 25m, eight-lane swimming pool plus learner pool and toddler splash area, a four-court sports hall, a 120-station health and fitness suite, three class-based studios, two squash courts, a climbing wall, a crèche, a café and a health referral room.
The mechanical design and installation works will include gas fired boilers and a CHP unit, under floor heating, mechanical ventilation and multiple VRF systems. Ductwork for the project will be produced by Kershaw’s in-house manufacture and pre-fabrication workshops. The electrical installation will include all power, lighting, data, fire alarms and security.
Once the new centre, due to open in early 2016, is up and running, the old sports and leisure facilities will be replaced by housing.
Ian Greenstock, Sales Director for Kershaw Mechanical Services said “We’re delighted to be involved in this latest leisure centre, and are seeing an increased emphasis on sports and leisure related projects in our portfolio.” “It ties in, we believe, with the increasing demand for health and fitness facilities, reflecting the public’s concerns about lack of exercise and whether they are doing enough to lead a healthy lifestyle” he added.
