A Healthy Start to the Year for Kershaw Mechanical Services.

For many people, the start of a new year means joining up and working hard at a local leisure centre or gym, and things are no different for the team at Kershaw Mechanical Services. 

January saw the team start on-site at Harpenden’s new leisure and cultural centre on behalf of the main contractor Willmott Dixon. 

Contracted to complete the full Mechanical installation for the £17million development, Kershaw Mechanical Services will be providing their expertise to the project which will see the extension and alteration to the existing swimming pool building in Rothamsted Park.  

In addition, the Harpenden Leisure Centre will be home to an improved main pool, as well as new 17-metre learner pool, a sports hall, dance studios and a larger gym plus new changing rooms, a steam room, sauna and reception area. 

The mechanical elements to be installed include:

  • Heating provided by CHP with boilers as back up to serve the air handling units, electric radiators, radiant panels, door heater and heater batteries.
  • Air conditioning
  • Air handling units to pool, changing areas, fans, grilles complete with associated ductwork.
  • Natural ventilation via roof-mounted turrets
  • Above ground drainage
  • Hot and cold water to serve toilets, changing areas, kitchen areas. Hot water provided by plate heat exchanger
  • CAT 5 water to serve hose union bib taps

Kershaw Mechanical Services will also be assisting with the transformation of the adjacent sports facility into Harpenden Cultural Centre with a 511-seat theatre as a replacement for the Harpenden Public Halls entertainment venue.

The team will be providing:

  • Heating provided by boilers to serve electric radiators, door heaters and heater batteries.
  • Air conditioning
  • Air handling units, fans, grilles complete with associated ductwork
  • Hot and cold water services, hot water provided via a generation unit
  • Above ground drainage

Work on the project, which also includes creating a 92 space car park, is expected to complete in autumn 2020.
