Cambridge M&E Company Appointed On Prestigious Bedfordshire Academies
M&E specialist, Kershaw Mechanical Services, is installing full building services at two new academies for Central Bedfordshire Council, in partnership with main contractor, Willmott Dixon Construction.
All Saints Academy, Dunstable, M&E value £3m, will provide places for around 740 students, aged 11 to 18 years old. The larger Bedford Academy, M&E value £5m, for around 1,440 students.

Both academies will replace existing buildings and are designed around a central hub providing a circular reception atrium. Three wings extend out at All Saints Academy; four at Bedford Academy.
Energy efficiency and environmental impact are key aspects of the build programmes, reflected in the M&E remit which includes under-floor heating, natural ventilation via auto operable windows with temperature sensors, fully controlled intelligent lighting systems and ground source heat pump technology. All Saints Academy will also benefit from roof mounted photovoltaic array totalling 100m2.
First to complete will be All Saints Academy, due for September 2012. Bedford Academy is due for completion in April 2013.

Ian Greenstock, Sales Director said “These academies will be light, open, naturally ventilated spaces designed to stimulate learning, where both students and teachers will feel happy to come each day.
“Kershaw are delighted to have been selected as a partner by Willmott Dixon Construction to undertake the two new foundation academies in Bedfordshire, which will enhance our already considerable education portfolio.”
